If you are looking for a storm chasing job here are the numbers
(with a metrology degree )
A typical work environment usually involves a team. Structure is also important. Even for “solo” chasers “Before heading out, the team looks at the weather conditions, the National Weather Service computer forecast models and outlooks from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Storm Prediction Center to determine the target.
Our goal is to figure out where tornadoes are most likely to occur that day. Temperature, moisture and winds, and how these change with height above the ground, all provide clues.
Here are the duties you can expect to perform in the storm chaser profession:
List of tools
mostly warm and moist air
can be shaped like an anvil
drags down the storms
of thunder storms
accidentally cause storms
actually rain frogs
My box will be a scene for the storm with tools. I want to represent the day in life of storm chasing and the tools used . Some tools I will use will be radars and sirens. I want to convey a sense of urgency so that the chase is successful when they are able to document the storm but not steal the show from my website. The box should show what’s on the site.
I wanted to be a storm chaser because watching my favorite youtubers inspired me, but i figured out meteorology is the foundation and more stable opportunity. Most meteorologists witness the buildup of massive thunderstorms, towering cumulonimbus clouds, lightning, hail, and the way the sky changes. People want to chase storms for the thrill and meteorologists do it on a larger scale. I got in for storm chasing but left it for meteorology, but if given the chance I would storm chase as a hobby.
I chose meteorology as a good career pathway instead of storm chasing because it gave options for money making jobs. Jobs include broadcast meteorology, operational forecasting, research, and there are specialized fields like forensic meteorology and climate study. This is important because it shows all of my opportunities to make a living studying weather.
Meteorologists have a bunch of skills that are required for their job according to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) they need “rigorous scientific education, technical expertise in data analysis, and strong communication skills to fulfill the agency’s mission of protecting life and property”. Understanding weather, being able to study data and analyze weather patterns while being able to use the specialized computers are absolutely necessary skills for completion of the job. Collaborating and multitasking is important as well. Because you work as a team in meteorology you should be able to work with a team. These are the many things to expect in this career.
Education is not optional for meteorologists because at minimum you need a bachelor’s degree. The Noaa.com(National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) says Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or other natural science majors need at least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) in meteorology/atmospheric science. This is what is needed for the school aspect to get a bachelor’s degree which is the most common level of education although over 10% have doctorate degrees.
Daily life as a meteorologist can vary depending on your job. For example if you are a broadcast meteorologist your job includes informing the public on dangerous or standard weather. They also wake up at 3 am and work late doing nonstop weather shows daily. Operational forecasting requires analyzing data for private industry. Their job is fast and high stakes 24/7 analysis of data. Both require knowledge of weather patterns and their importance to everyday life and emergency situations.
Recording is a crucial part of all weather jobs. Whether it’s recording the wind speeds, the precipitation or even documenting the cloud shapes are all important data. This is something meteorologists have in common with storm chasers. Many storm chasers record with their cameras studying the radar and the clouds. Storm chasers have things in common with meteorologists but they’re not exactly the same.
Meteorologists usually do more than severe weather. I learned this by studying the career pathway and the different types of jobs besides storm chasing. So far I’ve learned meteorologists have a better chance of making money while the storm chaser’s money is gone with the tornado. Basically meteorologists have a more structured job working with weather, while storm chasers risk their life for little to no pay. They can make money by having a strong presence on Youtube and getting ad revenue. Storm chasers also sell their content to news stations sometimes.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my thoughts of being a Storm chaser have changed. I’ve learned that meteorology is a good career pathway instead of storm chasing, because not many people make money storm chasing. Many Meteorologists usually observe severe weather with a low risk rewarding career , while storm chasers chase for one viral video. YouTube pays creators ad revenue for 1 million views, ranging from $3,400 to $30,000, according to businessinsider.com. With the rise of tornado chasing more people want to get the same viral video by sometimes risking their lives. I’ve decided to take safer jobs and still enjoy the weather safely.
My view of storm chasing was mostly directed by the people on youtube. I wanted to be like pecos hank who makes content and photographs. Turns out youtube doesn’t pay that well for time consuming content. This was important because I learned that meteorology pays better and has many more options.
I rewrote my 7+ paragraph paper because the original content provided an old bias about storm chasing. When I say bias that means that I came in looking for validation not credibility. This was vital to my project because I love chasing storms but it won’t serve me in the long run. In conclusion, being a storm chaser means a lot to me, but should stay as a hobby not a job in the long run and do meteorology full time.
I learned that storm chasers are mostly broke, but meteorologists have a stable income and a stable career. This project helped me understand careers better because I researched a lot to find out the pros and cons of different careers related to weather.
Before this project I didn’t know how to plan or use wordpress for a website. Also, I learned how to properly use AI for help not answers, and gained a rudimentary understanding of Elementor (Word Press ).This project taught me how to listen, work hard, time management, and how to be a better student.
AI Transparency Report For Damon’s Domain
I used ai for comprehension not composition. Meaning I asked chat for help creating my sites not doing my site. I used it to keep track of my thoughts, ideas, old drafts and to have a good understanding of what my site should look like. What I attached below is a full transparent report on what I did with a log of history throughout the mosaic. Even with my Damon writing errors. My words are in red .
Also with my dads help with his experiences with word press, website construction, caring to help and willingness to love me.
Also I would love to thank my helpful mom Rachel for all the times I was stubborn but she still helps anyways.
